James Hilston’s copy-editing and proofreading superpowers can rescue you from the arch supervillains of grammatical and typographical errors. With more than two decades' experience of editing news graphics, as well as copy-editing and proofreading significant published works of BAFTA- and five-time Olivier Award-winner, Derren Brown (Notes From a Fellow Traveller), and Olivier Award-winner, Stephen Long (pseudonym: Hector Chadwick, The Mental Mysteries of Hector Chadwick, A Florin Spun), it is my aim to make certain that your message is in no way obscured by unfortunate typos. Adept at copy-editing and proofreading in American and British English, my reason for existence is to give you peace of mind, knowing that your book, story, research paper, script, billboard, advertisement, newsletter, social media, lyrics, invitation—anything that contains a written message of any kind—will be presented in the best possible light, without errors or awkward grammatical constructions.
This touring journal, written by one of the most successful West End performers alive, came into being while Derren Brown performed his sold-out tour of Showman around the UK in 2022-23. My role in this project involved copy editing and some line editing of the manuscript and then proofreading the 520-page edited document.
A Florin Spun by Hector Chadwick is a more than 150-page hardback treatise detailing everything you need to know about controlling the outcome of a coin toss. This includes both techniques and practical performance applications. My contributions to this project included line editing, copy editing and proofreading.
“After reading this book, it will be quite obvious to you why Derren Brown (who wrote the foreword) has trusted Hector to help him write numerous award-winning theatrical and TV shows.” ~ Vanishing Inc. Magic
“We had the genuine joy of reading The Mental Mysteries of Hector Chadwick for the first time some eight years after we started performing magic together, and were quite cross that it had not been in our hands much, much earlier. We have no doubts that you will love this book just as much as we do. Which is a lot. A huge amount really.” ~ Morgan & West
